NPSN founder Marie Manthey passed away on December 12, 2024. She is remembered by Nursing Peer Support Network volunteers and participants as the architect and creative force behind NPSN. Marie formed NPSN as a non-profit organization in 2014, recruiting nurses in recovery from substance use disorders to provide peer support to other nurses in recovery. With unwavering commitment to fighting the shame and stigma present towards substance use disorders in nursing, Marie helped NPSN grow in size and influence. Now, 10 years later, NPSN supports over 400 nurses in recovery every month through peer support groups. Additionally, scores of Minnesota nurses and nursing students have received information about this topic from NPSN educational presentations.
The memorial service for Marie will be held at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26. Attendance can be either in person or virtually. An online link to the service will be posted closer to the event. If attending in person, the service will be followed by a catered reception at the Alumni Center.
