Niki Gjere RN, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. She has been a nurse for the past 27 years. She has expertise in advocacy, detoxification, care system improvements, care paths, complex care support and implementation, co-occurring illnesses (psychiatric and addiction).
Niki is a member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Organization of Registered Nurses; Practice and Education Commissioner for the Minnesota Nurses Association; Sigma Theta Tau, Zeta Chapter, Secretary; and chair of the Honors Committee for the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
Niki, says: “Throughout my career in nursing, I have worked with those who experience addiction. I am very concerned about the significance of shame and stigma – which is perpetuated by the health care system and public.”
